I spent several weeks looking for a suitable freight depot to go in the pie shop space but every one I looked at was too large or laid out in a manner that would not fit the space. Also, I wanted to stay with Christmas Village type structures and there are very few freight depots in the various manufacturer’s lines. I finally decided to move the passenger depot to the pie shop location and put some other industry on the long spur.
I finally found a freight depot I liked but it was a wood laser kit. I wasn’t sure how it would look with the existing structures and more importantly, I wasn’t sure I could build it. I decided to try my hand at a small laser kit to see how it blended in and whether I had the requisite skills. I decided on a Banta Modelworks Crossing Shanty. It came out pretty good for a first effort and looked okay with the other structures so I went ahead and ordered the Rusty Stumps Fall Creek Freight Depot.
By mid-May I had a new crossing shanty, gotten rid of the ghastly trees on the ridge-line and relocated the depot. More importantly I knew what all of the structures would be. I also added a Digitrax PR3 screwed to one of the crossbraces so that I could use JMRI to do the programming.
